Steve Froio scored an unassisted goal a minute into Friday’s soccer game against Oxford, and things just got worse for the Pirates as the clock continued to tick. In the eleventh minute, Richie Augusto scored with a Steve Racine assist. At the half, the Rockets were up 2-0 with mostly the bench and JV players on the field.

Coach Chris Bailey opted to exercise his starters again in the second half, and Alex Strafer scored in the 54th minute assisted by Froio and Dean Lemansky. Six minutes later Augusto scored his second goal with a Racine assist, and 30 seconds later, Racine got his own goal assisted by Strafer. Alex Mularski, out of the net thanks to Adam Cook, scored at the 65th minute assisted by Racine. Coach Bailey put a self-imposed limit of 6 goals on the team.

The Auburn keepers had 8 saves, while Oxford’s had 9. Auburn had 27 shots on net, and the Pirates had 5. The game gave all the varsity players and some junior varsity players lots of field time and some great experience for the future.

Captain Steve Racine said, “We got good support from our bench today.” Captain Adam Gillies added, “It was a demonstration of sound soccer.”
