Superintendent Enthusiastic About School Year Ahead

by | Aug 25, 2014

In response to an inquiry from Auburn Mass Daily, School Superintendent Maryellen Brunelle offered following words:

“The upcoming school year promises to be an amazing one and I so look forward to the return of our nearly 2,400 students tomorrow, Tuesday, August 26th.

Our Opening Day Program for staff was held earlier this morning and there was much anticipation and enthusiasm from all for the school year to begin.

There are so many exciting advances and initiatives planned for this school year, some of which include the continued construction of our state-of-the-art middle school which is set to open in the fall of 2015; nearly $2 million in renovations to our current middle school to ready it for our grades 3 through 5 students in the fall of 2015; and the 1:1 iPad initiative for grades 8 and 9 that will expand to grades 6 through 12 in the 2015-2016 school year, to name only a few.

FirstDay.1540As a staff, we renewed our commitment to our students and their potential to succeed, realizing, though, that none of us can accomplish this work alone. We must rely on one another, support one another, challenge one another and depend on one another. In short, we have to nurture and build relationships: relationships with our students; relationships with our colleagues; and relationships with the parents of our students and the members of the Auburn community in which we are so fortunate to work.

We challenged each other to, ‘Do more and be more…. knowing that in so doing, our students will do more and be more in return.’ We will support and challenge them and demonstrate to them on a daily basis that we truly believe in them and their limitless potential to achieve at high levels.

I closed by reminding all in attendance that I believe in the Auburn Public Schools and I’m extremely proud to serve as its leader.

I believe in the work we are doing and the progress we are making.
I believe in each of our nearly 2,400 students and their potential to achieve at high levels, given the appropriate levels of support from each of us.
And most importantly, I believe in each member of our faculty, staff, and administration.
It’s going to be an AMAZING year!”
