FAME, Friends of Auburn Music Education, will be presenting “Auburn’s Stardust Diner” on August 19th at 6pm in the Auburn High School Cafeteria. The event will be modeled after the famous Ellen’s Stardust Diner at 1650 Broadway in New York City. Their singing wait staff has made it a tourist destination since 1987.
In Auburn, guests can just sit back and enjoy the show or purchase a pasta dinner, bake sale goodies, or a fun craft for the kids, i.e., face painting, henna tattoos, etc…. all the while a stream of our own talented students will entertain. AHS Instrumental Music Instructor Virginia Bailey is heading up the talent for the evening, and she is scouting for performers.
Ms. Bailey said, “Think of something you want to perform. It can be Broadway, pop, or, of course, Disney. Duos, trios, and groups are welcome too. E-mail your song selection(s) and the performer(s) to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will set up a time to rehearse. Those of you who are doing summer theater camps and shows, we would love for you to invite your friends from the surrounding areas to perform as well. Alumni, we would love to have you join us too!” Middle school students are also invited.
The goal of the this fundraiser is to defray the costs for music students to attend the music department’s trips to Disney World in Orlando and Broadway in New York City next year. High school band and chorus members for the upcoming school year are asked to help make this a productive event. Parents and students are needed to sell tickets, help set up, cook food, and more. Students have the opportunity to earn travel credit by selling admission and meal tickets.
