If anyone in Auburn was not in the Christmas spirit over the last few weeks, they must have not left their house. The abundant decorations around town alone netted many oohs, aahs and smiles, and the many activities across the community were both entertaining and positive.

On the last Saturday before Christmas, the Auburn Fire Department has traditionally done their Santa Tour, and this year was no exception. If you remember the tour in 2017, an overnight ice storm restricted the fire trucks’ route at times, but the show went on.

This year was not nice either: cold, damp and a steady wind. As the tour started in Drury Square, only four people gathered across the street, and a young girl stayed in the protection of her parent’s SUV in the lot by fire headquarters. Nevertheless, Santa (Gary Almstrom) and his faithful elf (daughter Kayla) did their jobs and persevered.

The entire route was completed by Rescue 1, Tower 1, the Grinch, Olaf, and Forestry 1 protecting the rear. Some of the day was bright and sunny at times, and the participants were no worse for wear. Next year will be a special year for the Santa Tour, and Auburn Mass Daily will be reporting on that in just under a year.

This was a great way to close out 2018. Happy New Year!
