When Bartlett came to town on January 3, the Auburn girls varsity basketball team was ready, and so was the JV squad. At halftime in the first game, the JV Rockets were up an astounding 19-4, and they won the game, 35-21. This win gives Auburn a 6-2 record, and they will be adding value to next year’s varsity team.
At half-time in the varsity match, Auburn had a 20-point lead, 33-13. Good 3’s and defensive pressure gave them the advantage. Things got a bit dicey in the third quarter as the Indians outshot the Rockets 16-6, but a more stable fourth let Auburn hang on for the 47-39 win.
The varsity girls are now 4-4 which is better than last season which ended 3-17. With more hard work, maybe they can reach the playoffs which would be terrific.
Jackie Landry and Semran Sahota led the Rockets with 11 points apiece, and Victoria Murphy followed with 10. Landry had three 3’s while Murphy, Izzy Therrien and Molly Cutting each had one.
Brittany Ward scored 15 points for Bartlett including four 3’s. It would be nice if she school choiced to Auburn for her senior year.
Coach Nicole LeProvost said the team has had “spurts of greatness” all season, but they have yet to put together four great quarters in a single game.
