At the conclusion of each cross country season, the MIAA holds a breakfast and honors two representatives, a male and female runner, from each league in the state, and SWCL selected Auburn’s Emma Gervais to represent the league. The award is based on athletic performance, character, and community service.
From Coach Tom Adams, “Emma Gervais is a wonderful example of a student-athlete. She is a four year participant of the cross country team. Her natural leadership skills, and inclusive team awareness made her an easy choice for the team captain this year. In addition to her hard work in school, she serves as the senior class president, and is actively involved in community service throughout the year.”
Emma said, ”For four years cross country has provided me with a family of caring young women whose main goal is to support each other in our endeavors. As a freshman the cross country team helped me transition into high school effortlessly and this is still the goal of our team today. Lead by Coach T. Adams, we’re encouraged to always run our best race and to be proud of our accomplishments. We’re the girls that smile while running and because of them my time on the cross country team has been my favorite high school athletic experience. I’m pushed to be the best runner, captain, teammate, and friend I can be because of them.”
Congratulations Emma! You make Auburn proud.
