Auburn High School senior Obiamaka Igwenagu signed a national letter of intent on Monday to attend College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, competing for their Track and Field program. Igwenagu has been a standout athlete at AHS, holding the school record for both the long jump and triple jump as well as playing for the girls soccer team.
Girls Track and Field Coach, Karyn Ferdella said of Igwenagu, “It has been a privilege to watch Obiamaka grow athletically, academically, artistically, and especially as a leader.”
Ferdella continued, “As a freshman, speaking up was not really her strong suit. But now she is a mentor and a tutor, helping her teammates. She will be sorely missed but I am so excited to watch her as a Crusader.”
Igwenagu is excited about the opportunity to compete at the Division 1 college level.
“It’s exciting that it’s close to home, but still a higher level college sports program” said Igwenagu.
She expects to compete in sprinting events as well as in long and triple jump at the college level.
Obiamaka was joined at the signing by her parents, Patrick and Tochy Igwenagu and her sister, AHS sophomore Chizoba Igwenago. Obiamaka also has an older brother and another younger sister.
We wish Obiamaka the best of luck the rest of her senior year at AHS as she prepares for HC!
