Mighty Oaks Montessori School will be Hosting a “Keeping Kids Safe” Parent Education Workshop on Thursday November 15th from 5:30 – 7:30. The curriculum is called “Keeping Kids Safe: Child sexual abuse prevention” created by The Children’s Trust.
The training is tailored to parents, but also completely appropriate for teachers, childcare providers, grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc. It highlights how to take steps to reduce the risk of your child becoming a victim of sexual abuse as well as how to talk to your children about sexual abuse (what language to use). There is also a part of the training that discusses what to do if a child discloses abuse, including DCF and police involvement. It is best for parents/loved ones with children from birth to about age ten.
The Training will be given by A Mighty Oaks Parent Liz Harris. Liz is a licensed clinical social worker. She is trained in providing trauma-informed interventions to children/families and works in an out-patient mental health agency. Liz also works part-time for Early Intervention and previously she had eight years of child protection work at the Department of Children and Families as a social worker and a supervisor.
