Last Wednesday was the season opener for most Auburn High sports, and no team disappointed. By Friday morning, Boys golf was 3-0 after claiming victories against Oxford, Quabbin and Uxbridge. Boys Cross Country won twice by defeating Leicester, 20-41, and Northbridge, 15-50. Girls Cross Country beat Northbridge, 15-50, but fell to Leicester 21-37.

Three games were held at the high school, and all had a similar feel. The teams were a little slow to start with each scoring a single goal in the first half. The second halves were much better as the Rockets dug in their heels and earned significant victories. All the JV teams won as well.

Girls soccer downed Uxbridge, 4-1, but it took 23 minutes to get Auburn on the scoreboard when Julia Lussier hit the net with Corinne Oliver assisting. In the second half, Jackie Landry scored with an assist by Tori Murphy. Four minutes later, Corinne Oliver scored a solo victory, and the Spartans answered with their only goal. Jackie Landry secured the game with a solo score in the 81st minute.

Over on the field hockey turf, Grace Levansavich scored in the first half with Molly Cutting assisting. Uxbridge netted one to end the half 1-1. With nearly 27 minutes gone in the second, Reese Levansavich earned a goal with Molly Lovely assisting. The field was quiet for over twenty minutes when the Rockets exploded.

With 4 minutes remaining, Katelyn Cormier scored with a Reese Levensavich assist. Reese then scored with her sister Grace assisting. With just over a minute left, Olivia Mikkila made a solo goal, and that gave Auburn a 5-1 win.

Boys soccer has some serious talent this year, and a lot of players should be making their marks. 16 minutes in, Marcus LaPointe scored with Nick Gonyea assisting. Early in the second half, Gonyea made a goal with Joe Clougherty on the assist.

Jadon Latino scored in the 64th minute with Fidel Castro assisting followed by another Gonyea goal with LaPointe assisting. The Rockets won 4-0.

On Thursday night, varsity football defeated St. Peter-Marian 20-8 in the season opener for both schools. They play Dennis-Yarmouth on the cape this Friday to honor our fallen police officers.
