It was very kind of Mother Nature to stop the rain before Monday night’s start of the MIAA Girls Lacrosse Central/West Division 2 Tournament. #4 Auburn (13-5) faced #13 Chicopee (9-8), and things looked good for the Rockets right from the start and at the end when Auburn was up 15-5 in this first round game.
38 seconds into the first half, Auburn already had a 2-0 lead, but the Pacers made a series of quick attacks that put the visitors up 3-2 for a few minutes. That would be it for the Chicopee offense, though, as the first half ended 7-3.
The second half often looked like a practice for the Rockets with the offense in front of their bench and a lot of coaching from the sidelines. If nothing else, Auburn’s team must continue to prepare as the games will be getting tougher each day. Auburn outscored the Pacers 8-2 in the second half leading to their 15-5 victory. Some of their predesigned plays were both well planned and well executed.
Cydney Randall led Auburn’s scorers with 4 goals. Alexis McGrail and Molly Cutting followed with 3 each while Olivia Mikkila and Shea Jarvis each had 2. Grace Levansavich also added a goal.
Auburn will face #5 Chicopee Comp (16-4) on Thursday at 5PM. That game will also be at home. It’s nice being a high seed.
