Alice K (Keene) Garnache, 83, of Auburn, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.
Born in Richmond, Kentucky the daughter of the late William and Mae (Powell) Keene, she graduated Model Lab School in 1951. After undergraduate study at Tennessee Tech and Eastern Kentucky University, she completed graduate coursework at Vanderbilt University. Married in 1958, Alice moved to Massachusetts in 1963. She worked for many years at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in diabetes research in Tom Miller’s lab.
In addition to her husband Donald P. Garnache, Alice is survived by three of her children (pre-deceased by Kenneth (Zoe) Garnache of New York), Catherine A. Garnache of Auburn, MA, Neil A. (Kirstin) Garnache of Virginia, David K. (Julie) Garnache of Illinois; eight grandchildren, Megan, Alicia, Peter, Kate, Cooper, Bridgette, Carson, and Karissa. She is additionally survived by her sister, Kathryn (Shirley) Kearns of Richmond, KY, and their children Kerry and Sandy (daughter Debbie was pre-deceased).
Alice’s love for family and friends, delight in the world around her, and gracious kindness to all serve as an enduring inspiration for all who knew and continue to love her.
Funeral arrangements will be held privately.
