On the last day of school before the Christmas break, musicians from the high school have traditionally performed at all the Auburn schools. In years past, it may have been the jazz band and the select chorus, but this year, the marching band and chamber choir got on and off the buses six times to provide some seasonal entertainment.

Clad in Christmas attire, including some fun and ugly sweaters, the students brought both creativity and talent along for the performances. Music teachers Virginia Bailey and Nick Lepete kept the concerts at the fast pace they needed to complete this hectic day.

Ms. Bailey said the tradition was well underway when she started teaching at Auburn High in 2002, and it appears to still be a hit for musicians, students and teachers. Today’s slideshow is from the performance at Bryn Mawr, and the final slide is of grade 2 teacher Eileen Tarini who won the Snow Woman Challenge for Auburn Youth and Family Services.

Wearing an inflatable snowman costume, Tarini was quite the sight, and her class deserves a lot of credit for making her victory possible. Voting was only allowed with the donation of a non-perishable food item, and her class alone delivered over 500 items. Collectively, the school provided over 1,500 items for the holiday baskets at AYFS.
