The #11 Auburn boys soccer will face #6 Tahonto in West Boylston at 3:00PM today in the first round of the MIAA Central D3 playoffs. The Rockets finished their season strong with wins over Bay Path and Leicester. The JV squad won both of their last games as well.
In the Bay Path contest, a goal by Nick Gonyea late in the second half put the Rockets up 1-0, and the defense was able to maintain the lead until the end. Coleman Picard played a terrific game in net and logged 11 saves.
The JV’s were down 1-0 in the first half but got energized in the second. Sam Rice made the first goal and Joe Cooke followed. If more time was available, they certainly would have extended their lead since they were totally pumped.
The JV’s beat Leicester 1-0 in their final game of the year, and their record is 9-3-1. Coach Hans de Klerk said, “We have 22 players on JV, which is the largest JV squad in many years, and we have a winning record for the first time in 3 years.”
At Leicester, 2 goals by Josh Anderson and 1 by Gonyea gave the Rockets a 3-1 victory, and Picard, again, had 11 saves. Good luck today, and it was a great sign of school spirit to support girls soccer yesterday.
