Alumni Weekend was largely a success for Auburn athletes, and the 34-21 football victory over North Middlesex Regional was certainly one of the best. Earlier on Friday however, boys golf fell to St. Peter-Marian in a tight match 182-190.

On Saturday, the boys and girls cross-country teams had mixed results with wins over David Prouty and losses to Grafton. Boys soccer lost to visiting Northbridge 6-1 while girls soccer won 4-0 over the Rams. Finally, field hockey has a decisive victory over Northbridge, 7-1. Auburn Mass Daily will be publishing additional slide shows this week.

Friday on Memorial Field, the North Middlesex Patriots took advantage of a Rocket penalty in the first quarter to put 8 points on the scoreboard. That, fortunately, was there only lead of the game. Coleson Hammond rushed for 2 touchdowns in the second, and Auburn was up 14-8 at the half.

Hammond rushed again in the third to net a 20-8 lead, but North Middlesex wasn’t done yet. They scored on a Matt Haskins’ pass which was answered by a 14-yard Anthony Clemente run and a David Nelson extra point. The Patriots scored one more time, but, again, Hammond ran in for a TD, this time for 29-yards. Another Nelson kick resulted in the final score, 34-21.

Hammond ran for a total of 180 yards with 46 resulting in touchdowns, and the Auburn defense performed well in close quarters with some solid tackles and stops. Hammond has a significant presence in today’s slideshow, as he should. A great game and some excellent play Rockets Football!
