The entire student population of the Auburn Public Schools starts another school year this morning, but others have been at it all summer. Whether a young person attends a camp, enrolls in summer school, goes on a family vacation or just hangs out locally, the learning never really stops.
Some, who choose to participate in athletics, may have attended a specialized camp, captains’ practices or team practices on the second Thursday before Labor Day as the MIAA rules dictate. Football players get to add another week to their seasonal start.
It was nice to see AHS athletes working hard on the fields yesterday afternoon with cleats, pads and other protective equipment in place. Girls soccer even had a home scrimmage against Holy Name. It’s too early to get a feel for Auburn’s teams, and the coaches don’t give up much at this stage.
Next Wednesday, September 6th, is the real kickoff as all high school teams except for football will be on the field either at home or away. Boys golf even has an away match in Leicester this afternoon, and they play at home on Friday.
Auburn Mass Daily will be taking a closer look at each sport and any coaching changes over the next week or so. We wish each and every player a great and safe season. Go Rockets!
