COLCHESTER, Vt. – A large contingent of Saint Michael’s College students who have studied away from campus during the 2016-17 school year and this summer are also Purple Knight student-athletes, as 26 among the 130 who took advantage of the opportunity through the College’s Study Abroad Office donned Purple and Gold during the academic year.

Seven more gained experience through classes that have taken summer learning to different corners of the globe: “Great (Fire) Wall of China/Mongolia” (China), “Culture & Society in Medieval Burgundy” (France) and “Environmental Study of Sustainable Places” (Wales). Four others were part of the Saint Michael’s Mobilization of Volunteer Efforts (MOVE) service trip to the Dominican Republic in March.

2016-17 Study-Abroad Student-Athletes

• May graduate Kyle Cone (York, Maine/York) – Florence, Italy (fall) – started 21 games at shortstop, fielding at a .923 clip, while adding 11 hits, six runs, three RBIs and two doubles
• May graduate Drew Salk (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) – Florence, Italy (fall) – outfielder was second on the team with .390 on-base percentage in 21 games, drawing 12 walks with seven RBIs and six doubles

Women’s Basketball
• Rising junior Samantha Delaney (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) – Dominican Republic service trip (March) – averaged 11.3 points and 7.8 rebounds while starting all 26 games. Posted 59 blocks, placing third in the Northeast-10 Conference with 2.3 per contest
• Rising junior Taylor LaVallie (Uncasville, Conn./Montville) – Siem Reap, Cambodia (summer) – appeared in three games, scoring a basket on her only field goal attempt

Men’s Cross Country
• May graduate Torin La Liberte (Madison, N.H./Kennett), also Nordic skiing – Wales class (summer) – among team’s top three finishers five times in six races. In Nordic skiing, one of the Purple Knights’ top three in all 12 events, leading the squad four times

Women’s Cross Country
• Rising senior Leah Seften (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) – Copenhagen, Denmark (spring) – competed at five meets, taking 24th at Shacklette Invitational on Sept. 4

Field Hockey
• Rising senior Micaela Hajduk (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) – Buenos Aires, Argentina (spring) – made all 16 of her appearances as a starter out of the midfield
• Rising senior Jackie Matthews (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) – Limerick, Ireland (spring) – scored four goals with one assist while seeing time in all 18 games, with 17 starts
• Rising sophomore Claire Scherf (Bethlehem, Conn./Nonnewaug) – Wales class (summer) – appeared in two contests as a reserve

Women’s Ice Hockey
• Rising junior Madison Nichols (Gilford, N.H./Tilton School) – Barcelona, Spain (summer) – totaled two goals and two assists while appearing in 23 games

Men’s Lacrosse
• Rising senior Dan Johnson (Ringwood, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) – Cork, Ireland (fall) – totaled 10 caused turnovers, seven ground balls and one goal while playing all 12 games on defense, with 11 starts
• Rising senior Brian Loughlin (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) – Madrid, Spain (summer) – notched 16 goals, 14 assists and 24 ground balls while starting 10 times in 12 appearances
• Rising senior Jake Sonberg (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) – Bocas del Toro, Panama (fall) – made seven saves with three ground balls during 64:26 of relief in goal, posting .538 save percentage and 5.59 GAA

Women’s Lacrosse
• Rising senior Emily Byrne (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills/Dickinson) – Madrid, Spain (fall) – tallied nine goals, two assists, 10 ground balls and three caused turnovers in 14 games, including seven starts
• Rising senior Susie Ellicks (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) – Cork, Ireland (fall) – collected 15 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers while starting all 14 games on defense
• Rising senior Micalea Leaska (Somers, Conn./Somers) – Zanzibar, Tanzania (fall) – recorded two caused turnovers and one ground ball in five games as a reserve
• Rising senior Kealy Moyna (Yonkers, N.Y./The Ursuline School) – China class (summer) – scored 25 goals with 14 assists, 12 ground balls, 11 draw controls and nine caused turnovers while starting all 14 games

Alpine Skiing
• Rising senior Ella Dorval Hall (Newburyport, Mass./Gould Academy) – Bali, Indonesia (summer) – appeared at Saint Lawrence University Carnival on Jan. 20-21, taking 28th in giant slalom and 31st in slalom

• May graduate Aaron DaCosta (Newark, Del./Archmere Academy) – Dominican Republic service trip (March) – notched eight goals, three assists and three game-winning goals while making 15 starts
• Rising senior Adrián Díaz (Santiago de Compostela, Spain/Vermont Academy) – Dominican Republic service trip (March) – totaled two goals and three assists in 16 games out of the midfield, including 15 starts

• Rising senior Andie Devaney (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) – Cork, Ireland (spring) – recorded one assist while making all 16 of her appearances as a defensive starter, missing just one game
• Rising senior Abby Pelon (South Lyon, Mich./Ladywood) – Kampala, Uganda (spring) – played every game on defense, making 16 starts

• Rising senior Hannah St. Don (Lakeville, Mass./Sacred Heart) – Wales class (summer) – fielded at a .957 clip in 18 games, including 16 as a catcher, while adding four hits, three walks and a triple
• Rising senior Chandler Wilder (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) – Madrid, Spain (summer) – started 30 games in center field, turning in 14 hits, eight sacrifice hits and seven runs

Women’s Swimming & Diving
• Rising senior Genevieve Gigandet (Groveland, Mass./Central Catholic) – China and Tibet (summer) – won 11 diving events, tying for second on the team in individual victories
• Rising senior Theresa Murphy (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) – Pillcopata, Peru (spring) – earned 10 victories in first five meets of season
• Rising senior Coral Santos (Pawtucket, R.I./Saint Raphael Academy) – Apia, Samoa (spring) – made appearances in each of team’s first five meets
• Rising senior Sammy Sidorakis (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) – Oxford, England (spring) – swam during Purple Knights’ opening five meets

Men’s Tennis
• May graduate Ben Lambert (Milford, N.H./Milford) – Salzburg, Austria (fall) – made all 14 of his singles appearances in the No. 1 position while seeing time in all three doubles spots

Women’s Tennis
• Rising junior Melissa Collins (Medford, Mass./Matignon) – Belfast, Ireland (summer) – made two singles appearances and one during doubles play
• Rising senior Amelia Weeks (Clinton, Wash./South Whidbey) – Copenhagen, Denmark (spring) – tied for first on team with six doubles wins and tied for second with 10 overall victories

Women’s Volleyball
• Rising senior Julia Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville) – Prague, Czech Republic (spring) – second on team with 196 digs while adding six service aces
• Rising sophomore Jordan Dean (Gilford, N.H./Gilford) – Wales class (summer) – third on team with 112 kills while turning in 77 digs
• Rising senior Megan Priester (Dover, N.H./Dover) – Wellington, New Zealand (spring) – second on team with 127 kills to go along with 47 digs
• Rising junior Sarah Rodgers (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) – Wales class (summer) – dished off 230 assists with 89 digs as part of a two-woman setting platoon
