Under bright afternoon skies last Thursday, the Auburn JV softball team took on Tantasqua and won 4-3. First year coach Caitlin Belanger was pleased with the Rockets’ performance, and the girls were ecstatic with this victory that almost wasn’t.
Auburn got on the board in the first inning, and scored again in the bottom of the fourth when Eliana Palumbo stole third base. The Warriors’ overthrew, and she safely made it to home where the catcher also missed a bad throw. The score was now 2-2, but Tantasqua jumped ahead in the fifth to regain the lead, 3-2.
The Auburn defense was sharp through the seventh, and then the Rockets were left with one last chance to win. Abby Frost started things off with a single, and Emma Ganley came in to run for her. The score was soon tied 3-3, and the winning run was on third. Carly Hayes hit a line drive that brought the runner home, and Auburn earned another win.
