Richard W. Erickson, 84, former longtime resident of Auburn, died on December 8, 2016 in the Holyoke Soldiers Home.

Born April 10, 1932 in Worcester, MA, he was the son of Carl Emil and Agda C. (Wahlander) Erickson. He served his country in the US Army from 1952-1954. Richard worked as a salesman for the Nabisco Company for many years before retiring. He was instrumental in starting the Auburn Amateur Youth Hockey Association and was a long time coach of youth hockey in Auburn.

Richard’s parents emigrated from Sweden to begin a new life in this country and Richard so enjoyed the beauty of this land. He often spoke of his trips across country to visit his son in Colorado and the splendor of America’s landscape. He was physically active and loved working with his hands and being outdoors. He was an avid skier and golfer up to the very end!

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Barbara Ann Allaire Erickson, his high school sweetheart of 64 years, along with his two loving sons, Stephen Erickson and his wife Laurie of Palmer, MA, Dennis Erickson and his wife Christine of Brownsville, VT. Richard also leaves eight grandchildren; Ahren, Kirk and his wife Stephanie, Evan, Leigh, Ashley and her husband Thomas, Bryan, Taylor and her husband Michael, Dyllan along with four great grandchildren; Addie, Marley, Maya, and the newest Scarlett.

Richard will be remembered lovingly by his family and all of those lives he touched along the way. All services have been entrusted to Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home and will be privately held.
