When Tower 1 roared up Southbridge St. with lights flashing, sirens wailing and Santa in the bucket on Friday night, those attending the annual tree lighting likely forgot about the chilly evening and the long line for cookies and cocoa. The Auburn High School Marching Band had played some holiday favorites, and the guests belted out the lyrics before St. Nicholas arrived with the Grinch not far behind.
When the tree was electrified, so was the crowd, and this was the courtesy of Stearns Electric for stringing the lights, Bay Path for baking the cookies, and the many town employees whose efforts made the evening possible. Once again, a terrific night was had by all, and the holiday season took a solid hold in Auburn.
The Fire Rescue Department will be doing their Santa Tour on the 17th, and Auburn Mass Daily will publish the schedule once it is finalized.
