When Auburn cross country was placed in Division 1 a few years back, many, including the coaches, were in disbelief. But, that doesn’t mean the teams can’t put forth very fast runners. Seniors Sarah Cavanaugh and Andrea Bolduc made it happen this year. In fact, one was first in each of the girls’ 10 meets.
Cavanaugh missed the first three meets, and Bolduc came in first in each. When Sarah got back in her running shoes, she was first in seven, and Andrea was second. On October 19th, Cavanaugh even set a new record of 18:54 on Auburn’s 3.1-mile course.
Unfortunately, a team needs more than two fast runners to win a meet, and their final record was 5-5. Tantasqua and Grafton, the other D1 teams in SWCL, led Auburn at meets and in the final tally. Only Auburn, however, will be moving on to States in the individual races.
During Districts this past weekend, Auburn placed 10th while Cavanaugh was second with a time of 19:36, only 9 seconds shy of first place. Bolduc came in ninth with a time of 20:59 at Gardner Municipal Golf Course’s 3.1-mile route. Two runners from Shepherd Hill will also go on to States.
The boys were 14th at districts, and no SWCL harriers made the cut for States. Good luck Sarah and Andrea!
