While many folks were enjoying the Columbus Day holiday, boys varsity soccer came to work for a 6:00pm shift as Oxford visited Memorial Field. Matty Backlin scored in the 15th minute with an assist by Nicholas Gonyea after taking a shot from outside the 18.

Ten minutes later, Billy Wright took advantage of an out of position goalie and an uncontrolled ball in front of the Oxford net. Riley Beauregard earned the assist. The final was 3-1 in Auburn’s favor. The Pirates put up one goal in the second half, but with 51 minutes left in the game, Beauregard worked through two defenders and made an easy score.

The Rockets face Millbury on Wednesday night and Clinton on Friday afternoon in Auburn. Senior night will be Monday when Tantasqua comes to town for a 7:00pm game. Auburn is now 6-5-1 (5-2-1 SWCL) and needs 3 more wins to earn a playoff spot.
