Boston – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced today that it has closed the Carpenter Road Bridge, which carries Carpenter Road over the future site of the Quinebaug River Rail Trail, in Dudley after performing an emergency bridge inspection this morning. The inspection indicated the bridge was in poor condition and unsafe for vehicular travel.

Carpenter Road serves as a local connector between New Boston Road and Route 12 in Dudley. Traffic will be directed away from Carpenter Road and through the intersection of New Boston Road and Rte. 12. The Carpenter Road Bridge will remain closed and then removed as part of Project 607113. This project intends to remove the existing structurally deficient bridge and replace it with an at grade roadway crossing and intersection. The project was advertised on September 3, 2016. It is expected that a contractor will be on board to begin the reconstruction work in the Spring of 2017. This project is anticipated to take one construction season to be completed.
