belhumeurIn a statement issued by the Auburn Fire Rescue Department Sunday, Chief Coleman announced that longtime Chief and community fixture, Roger Belhumeur, had passed.

Fire Chief Stephen Coleman Jr. regrets to announce the passing of Retired Auburn Fire Chief Roger Belhumeur.

This is a very sad day in the history of our department and our community. Chief Belhumeur was first appointed to the Auburn Fire Department in 1966 and became the first full time member of the department, appointed as the Fire Inspector on April 17, 1978. He worked full time for the department for 24 years before retiring on December 31, 2002 after serving as Chief of Department for 16 years.

Chief Belhumeur battled cancer for 17 years and in that time never let this horrible illness slow him down. He will be sorely missed by this department and the entire community.

The dates of the services have not yet been announced. As soon as they are we will share the information.

Please keep the entire Belhumeur family in your thoughts.

Belhumeur received the 2015 John E. & Ethel E. Riley Outstanding Citizenship Award for his tremendous contributions to the Auburn community. The Belhumeur family also owns and operates Bells Lawn and Garden on Southbridge St.
