Probably the last thing readers want to hear about this morning is ice and cold. But rink ice and the cold inside Horgan Arena are a bit different. Last Wednesday, boys hockey secured their fifth win of the season by defeating Marlborough 9-4. On Saturday, the Rockets added their sixth by besting Nashoba Valley Tech, 6-2. The first slide show is of the junior varsity team that also defeated the Panthers last week.
In the varsity contest, Jacob Miller scored a power point goal at 6:01 assisted by Kory Fortier and Adam Clark. The Spartans evened up the score 3 minutes later, but the Rockets were up 3-1 at the end of the period. Zach
Davey scored with Fortier and Drew Darger assisting, and Paul O’Leary sank the final puck with Clark and Cam Dungey assisting.
Less than 2 minutes into the second, Fortier scored assisted by O’Leary and Clark. Less than 2 minutes later, Clark scored with O’Leary and Colin McKeon assisting. In the final minute of the second period, Marlborough scored, but they were down 5-2.
Marlborough sank the puck 9 seconds into the third period, but Nick Shiner returned fire 2-1/2 minutes later with Clark and O’Leary assisting. Fortier scored again assisted by Dungey and Davey, and Clark scored a second time with assists by Jordan Barrett and Ryan Farrell. The Spartans added their fourth goal in the third, but they remained well behind.
There was obviously one more Auburn goal, but our notes don’t have it logged. Mike Sosik had 24 saves for the Rockets.
Today’s varsity slide show displays some of the excitement. We caught 5 of nine goals on film (pixels actually) and they are: Frame 1 – Jacob Miller, goal 1; Frame 6 – Paul O’Leary, goal 3; Frame 10 – Adam Clark, goal 5; Frame 16 – Nick Shiner, goal 6; and Frame 18 – Kory Fortier, goal 7.
