AUBURN – Richard “Nick” Nicholson, 71, of Auburn, died Wednesday, January 13, 2016 unexpectedly in his home.
He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late John and Mabel (Chabot) Nicholson. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School and attended Worcester Junior College before enlisting and serving honorably with the United States Army.
Richard worked in sales his whole life and retired from Fed Ex after being employed for 5 years. He previously was employed by Watkins Motor Lines Transportation for over 20 years which he loved.
Life for Richard was centered around his family, he loved spending time with and watching his granddaughters dance, and he played a significant role in each family member’s lives. Richard loved watching the N.E. Patriots, vacationing with his family, fishing, and golfing. He also served as past President of Auburn Midstate Youth Hockey for 10 years.
Richard leaves his loving wife of 50 years, Roberta (DeBerardinis) Nicholson; a daughter Karen E. Mackintire and her husband, Paul of Auburn and Richard Nicholson, Jr., and his wife, Heidi of Leicester; four granddaughters, Cassidy, Kalli, Haley, and Riley; a sister Dorothy Berthiaume of Worcester; also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, James Nicholson.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Richard’s family on Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 1-4pm in the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. The funeral will be from the funeral home on Monday, January 18, 2016 with his funeral Mass celebrated at 10AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street North. Burial with military honor will be at Hillside Cemetery, Auburn
