This has been a particularly rough season for Auburn Boys Basketball, and last Friday was no different. The JV team started the evening with a nice 52-39 win over the visiting David Prouty team. The Rockets were up 31-16 at the half and finished with a 13-point differential. Tyler Judice led with 21 points while Max Joncas and Jason Henry each had 8.
The varsity team came out strong, had a 14-13 lead after 1 quarter, and extended it to 23-19 at the half. The Panthers put on a good push in the third and outscored the Rockets 16 to 9. In the fourth, they led by as much as 10 points before the Rockets regained their footing.
Steve Saucier dropped two 3’s and Nate Ramos scored another to tighten the spread in the fourth, but the Panthers answered with two from outside and also scored 7 from the line on Auburn’s 12 second-half fouls. Prouty outshot Auburn 9-7 from downtown.
The Rockets had 5 turnovers in the first half and 10 in the second. Combined with 6 missed lay-ups, Auburn simply didn’t score enough. Ramos had 20 points and Saucier added 8 to lead the Rockets.
