Atlas Box in Sutton has made a sizable donation of lumber to the District 7 Technical Rescue Team. The lumber will be used in emergency situations to shore up the side walls of a collapsed trench or structure.
Chief Stephen M. Coleman Jr. of the Auburn Fire Rescue Department and Chairman of Fire District 7 says this donation takes a huge burden off the team as well as the individual communities that the team serves.
“If the District or the individual towns had to fund the cost of the lumber and transport it, it would equal thousands of dollars that we just don’t have” Coleman said. “It is equipment that is vital to
the success of a trench or building collapse but when communities must prioritize their spending, lumber in a trailer waiting to be deployed is at the bottom of the list” said Coleman.
Atlas Box & Crating Co. has also agreed to both house and transport the crated lumber to the scene of an emergency situation so emergency responders don’t have to worry about it. “This public private partnership is an example of how the business community and local towns can work together towards a goal.” Coleman said.
Massachusetts Fire District 7 is holding an event at Atlas Box , 223 Worcester-Providence Turnpike in Sutton on Thursday, November 12 at 10:30am to publicly thank the Atlas Box & Crating Co. for their generous donation.
