On Friday, October 30, Swanson Road Intermediate School’s PTO hosted the first ever ‘Spooky Spectacular’ event for students grade 3-5. Children were encouraged to wear costumes, and were able to participate in games and activities such as the Cake Walk, Skeleton Bowling, and tour a Mad Scientist’s Lab. Auburn School Committee members Jessica Harrington and Dorothy Kauffman attended dressed in costume and can be seen here distributing Halloween safety tips to the students that attended.
When asked how they came about the idea, Kauffman said, “Safety is an integral part of a successful Halloween night. We wanted to make sure that our students and their caregivers were well-equipped to safely enjoy Trick-or-Treat on Halloween. We felt that by dressing in costume and handing out tips on Halloween safety, the students could relate to us and we could help make a difference in our community.”
Harrington added, “As elected officials we have a duty and obligation to the community that goes beyond attending school committee meetings. Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our children.”
