The AHS junior varsity softball team was recognized by the Board of Selectmen for their undefeated 2015 season.
Coach McKenzie was out of town and unable to attend the presentation, but sent a statement that was read by one of the team parents, Lionel Berthiaume. in her statement, McKenzie stated, “These girls worked harder han any group of players I have ever had the pleasure of coaching.”
“This is an extraordinary group of girls to watch out for over the next two or three years at Auburn High” McKenzie added.
Selectman Steve Simonian, whose three daughters all play for the team, also recognized the parents. “Another large reason for [their success] was the coaching, Mr. Laperle, Mr. Kennedy, Mrs. O’Shea, myself, we all gave time coaching these girls over the years” said Simonian. “It’s a pleasure” he added.
Selectwoman Doreen Goodrich said “I watched you all come in today and you came in as a team.” She added, I can see you doing great things…Congratulations.”
Selectwoman Denise Brotherton commented how girls were not really into sports when she attended AHS, and how she enjoyed seeing the success the girls’ team enjoyed this year. “I commend each and every one of you and I wish you the best of luck.”
The team was then presented with a proclamation signed by the Board of Selectmen, recognizing the undefeated season, a tremendous accomplishment for any team at any level.
The team is composed of Lindsay Berthiaume, Abbie Fahey, Abby Lloyd, Victoria Simonian, Elizabeth Simonian, Alexandra Simonian, Alicia Murphy, Sophia Laperle, Maddie Boulay, Lauren Kennedy, Ali Watson, Kayleigh Donovan, Kylie Mason, Krista Marquez and coaches McKenzie and Schroeder.
