AUBURN- Helen E. (Golembeski) Prostak, 89, of Auburn, passed away on March 1, 2015 in her home that she shared with her daughter.
She was born in Worcester to Julius and Elizabeth (Daglis) Golembeski. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Prostak, a brother Anthony Glenn and sisters Katherine Ermanski and Agnes Keddie. She is survived by her kid brother Edward Golembeski of Worcester; her daughter Nancy A. Prostak of Auburn; her son Michael S. Prostak and his wife Wendy of Worcester; two beloved granddaughters Michaela L. Prostak of Worcester and Gretta J. Prostak of New Orleans, LA; a well-loved niece Rosiland Glenn of NY, NY, an “adopted” grandson Josh Fredman of Seattle WA, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Commerce High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1971 and a Master’s Degree in Education in 1975 from Worcester State University. Helen knew the value of higher education and urged all to continue their learning.
Mrs. Prostak held many positions at Worcester State College, retiring in 1985 as the Registrar after twenty years of service.
In 1952 she moved to Auburn. She was a founding member of the North American Martyr’s Parish in Auburn and helped establish their Women’s Club. She was fortunate enough to have visited Russia before the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as, explore Italy, Spain, England and France. She also traveled throughout the Unites States and loved spending time at the family cottage on Cape Cod and taking rides through the bucolic countryside.
Because she was such an avid reader (averaging a book a week) in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Helen’s name may be made to The Friends of The Auburn Public Library, c/o 369 Southbridge St., Auburn, MA 01501 Services are private.
