Gail Snyder Mikalson, 73, died June 14, 2014, and her husband Captain Leslie H Mikalson, UNSN (Ret), 74, died June 5, 2014 both with their family by their side. A service will be held on July 18th at 2pm at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
Leslie and Gail were both born in Massachusetts, Fairhaven and Auburn respectively. They met at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and were married in November 1961. After Leslie’s service in the Navy they settled in the Albany, NY area where they raised their three children, Kirsten Hunter, Erica Devlin and Sarah Juros. Leslie spent his career in New York State government, including many years in Governor Rockefeller and Governor Wilson’s Program Offices, Warren Anderson’s Senate Majority Leader’s office, and he retired as 1st Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Transportation for the State of NY. Gail had a successful career in real estate.
They both enjoyed sailing, traveling and spending time with their many friends and family before retiring to Cape Cod and then to Southport, NC. Once retired they also enjoyed golf and visiting with their six grandchildren.
Leslie and Gail made a difference in the lives of everyone they met. In every new area they lived, they found people who they cared for greatly and who also cared deeply for them. They were a generous, gracious and loving couple who will be missed.
