The South County Selects AAU Basketball program will hold tryouts for boys in 6th to 9th grade on Tuesday March 11 and Thursday March 13 from 6:30-8:00pm at Auburn High School.
The program, begun last year by Auburn natives Matthew Benoit and Daniel Koen, is looking to build on that success. “We’re dedicated to preparing Auburn student-athletes for the next level” says Benoit. “We’ve received a lot of positive feedback from last years’ program, and are hoping to continue that this year.”
The South County Selects are Auburn’s first AAU basketball program. According to Benoit, the focus has been on recruiting Auburn players.
“We had two teams last year.” said Benoit. “This year, we’ve opened it up to the 9th grade, since many of the 8th graders wanted to return.” The program is currently open to boys, but Benoit and Koen are open to expanding to include girls’ teams in the future.
The team(s) will begin practicing on Tuesday March 18, and will participate in 4-6 tournaments until school ends in June.
