Longmeadow came into the Field Hockey schedule in 2014, and the Rockets lost 4-0 that year. In 2015, a goal by Colleen Fellows netted Auburn a 1-0 victory, but your home team fell 2-0 last year. On Friday, the Western Mass rival comes to town again, and this should be a challenging game.
Longmeadow has a history of going deep into the MIAA D1 Tournament with final appearances in 3 of the last 5 years and semi-final contests in the other 2. Much like Auburn, however, a state title has been elusive for the Lancers in this same time period.
On Monday, Auburn’s JV team claimed a 2-0 victory over Westborough on goals by Emily Dupuis and Sydney Gemme.
When the varsity squad hit the turf, it took a bit of time to figure out the Rangers’ defense. With 10:52 left in the first half, Katelyn Cormier netted the first Rocket goal with Molly Cutting assisting. Nine minutes later, Cormier scored again with an assist by Fellows.
With 18 minutes left on the clock, Grace Levansavich scored the insurance goal to protect Auburn’s lead while the Rocket defense stayed rock solid during both halves, and sophomore Emma Crowley earned her seventh shutout win of the season. Good luck tomorrow!
