After Auburn High football lost their opener to St. Peter-Marian 20-0 on the 9th and on the road, they really needed a win at home. The South High Colonels were happy to oblige on Friday night, and the scoring separation could have been a lot greater if it wasn’t for the extensive use of Auburn’s bench.

Senior quarterback Coleson Hammond rushed for touchdowns twice in the first quarter and David Nelson kicked the extra point after each. In between, the Rockets netted a safety in South’s endzone.

In the second quarter, Nelson kicked a 24-yard field goal followed by an Anthony Clemente rush for 6 more points. After Manny Rosario ran in Auburn’s fourth TD from 3 yards out, Nelson got his third extra point of the evening. The Rockets were ahead 32-0 at the half.

With a substantial lead, many other Rockets saw field time in the second half. South’s Pierre Christian scored twice, but only a single 2-point conversion followed.

The Rockets will face a solid North Middlesex Regional team this Friday at home as part of Alumni Weekend.
