The driver of the vehicle involved in a one car crash on Wallace Ave. early Friday morning has died. Shortly after midnight Friday, APD and Auburn Fire Rescue received multiple 911 calls reporting a single car crash in the area of 68 Wallace Ave with the car on its’ roof.  A utility pole had been struck and wires were in the roadway.

The operator was trapped in the vehicle and efforts were immediately undertaken to remove him in order to render lifesaving medical care. The driver had to be extricated by the AFRD with the jaws of life. He was transported to UMASS, where he was pronounced deceased at 2:18 am, according to a statement on the APD Facebook page.

The victim had not been named by officials, but family members identified him as Moises Zelayandia. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with expenses for his children and family.

The accident is being investigated by Officer J. Miglionico of the CEMLEC Crash Reconstruction Unit.
