Joseph E “Joe” Morrissey Jr., 85, of Auburn, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017, surrounded by his wife of 40 years, Joann, and his many children and grandchildren.
Joe was born in Worcester and attended St. John’s High and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he was quite the competitive swimmer. He was the General Manager at Bancroft Motors and Edward Buick before completing his career in the auto industry at Diamond Buick in Auburn right up to the end of his life. Upon completing his 8 to 10-hour work day, often 6 days a week, Joe would work out at the Worcester Athletic Club. He was an avid golfer and jogger, he even ran in the Boston Marathon at 60 years young.
When not working or golfing, Joe’s favorite pastime was dining out and spending time with his wife and best friend, Joann. They were season ticket holders of the Celtics and Patriots for many years and loved watching those games together. Joe enjoyed his annual trips to Delray Beach and St. Maarten, gathering with longtime friends and family. Joe had a love for skiing, dancing, gardening, yodeling, and just about anything that brought him in touch with other people. Joe saw the good in everyone he met, and always made those that met him feel better for being in his presence. He loved to wake up every morning because he was “excited about what the day would bring and who [he] would meet”.
Joe is preceded in death by his father Joseph Morrissey Sr., his mother Marge (Daw), and his brother Harry Morrissey.
