At the start of Monday’s Board of Selectmen’s meeting Matthew Ethier was sworn is as a full-time firefighter. He fills a vacancy created only days ago when another career firefighter retired. While his appointment was expected, the retirement was not approved on June 29th when five other new firefighters came on board.

Ethier started his firefighting career as a member of the department’s Fire Explorer Post in 2000. He became a call firefighter in 2006 and voluntarily attended the full-time State Fire Academy in 2007. A career change took him to Cape Cod in 2014 where he remained an active call firefighter in West Barnstable.

Ethier is also an EMT and looks forward to returning to the town where he grew up. Congratulations Matt!
