Special to the Auburn Mass Daily
The weather cooperated Saturday morning for the opening day of the Auburn Little League. The parade of players started at North American Martyrs Church and ending at Camosse Field at the Pappas Recreation Complex shortly after 11am. All uniforms worn in the parade were fresh and ready for the 2017 season.
The Auburn Middle School Band serenaded the crowd, and Boy Scout Troop 101 presented the colors on the field. Auburn Police Officer Luis Santos, 41, was given the honor this year of throwing the ceremonial first pitch to start the 2017 season. He was accompanied by his wife and their 4 young children. Officer Santos is recovering from injuries sustained after being struck by a suspect’s vehicle on Feb. 11 of this year. It is not known when Officer Santos will be able to return to duty.
