The opening game for the second season of Auburn Middle School softball could not have gone better as the Rockets defeated Knox Trail 17-4. Unlike the experienced Auburn team, the Knox Trail Blazers (a great name, by the way) have few players who play outside the school, and it showed early.

Due to weather conditions, yesterday’s game was played on the turf Little League field where any softball that gets the opportunity to roll creates havoc for those in the outfield. The Rocket pitching was solid and their bats were hot.

Emily Turcotte was 3 for 3, all of which were in-the-park home runs while Grace Foulkrod and Izzy Therrien were 2 for 3 at the plate. Alyssa Wright and Allison Frost also hit homeruns during the contest. Any ball that made it to the outfield was difficult to handle for the Blazers.

According to Coach Kim Norris, the team had a 7-2-1 record last season when some grade 8 players were moved up to the high school’s junior varsity team. She has high hopes for this year’s more complete team. Good luck girls!
