A three-article warrant will be on tap this evening at a special town meeting at the Auburn High School auditorium at 7pm.
Article I is a formality, mostly, to hear the report of the Finance Committee.
Article II seeks Town Meeting appropriation of funding to replace the roof of Pakachoag School. In working with the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s Accelerated Repair Program, Auburn could save over 50% of the total repair cost in a form of a grant from the agency. The cost is projected to be between $700,000 and $900,000. However, bids were only due this past week on March 23, so according to Town Manager, Julie Jacobson, the total amount requested may not be known until the night of the meeting.
According to a statement from School Superintendent, Maryellen Brunelle, no additional borrowing would be required for the project, as Town Meeting approved repurposing previously approved Capital Improvement Program funds at the Fall 2016 special town meeting.
With Town Meeting approval and confirmation of the Accelerated Repair Program, the roof should be completed over the summer and ready for school year 2017-18.
Article III seeks Town Meeting approval of several line item shuffles. The Town is looking to install smoke and CO alarms at the highway Department building, and to replace/upgrade AFRD turnout gear. The funding will come from reductions to previously appropriated line items.
This should not be a long meeting. Town Meeting requires a quorum of 80 elected members in order to convene for business. If you are a Town Meeting Member, please make every effort to arrive to the meeting at 7pm.
