The No. 7 Auburn Rockets faced a tough climb Friday night as they battled the Wachusett Mountaineers at Northstar Ice Sports in Westborough. Playing against the No. 2 team was a challenge to say the least.

Wachusett’s Shane Sullivan and Joe Flynn scored the first two goals of the game. A glimmer of hope for Auburn surfaced as they scored two goals towards the end of the first period, tying the score 2-2. Senior Kory Fortier scored the first goal for Auburn, while Senior Zach Davey scored the second.

Hope then started to fade for Auburn as Wachusett’s Jimmy Conway picked up a goal in the second period. Sophomore Mike Sosik then replaced Sophomore Cameron Carpenter to defend Auburn’s goal after achieving 13 saves. The second period ended 3-2

Two more goals for Wachusett in the third period were not surprising as the puck consistently pressured #35 Mike Sosik at the goal. 21 saves are credited to Mike. A Patriots-style comeback was not to be seen as the game ended 5-2 and Wachusett moved on to play North Middlesex in the Division 3 semi-finals.
