Auburn High School senior Alex Hammond signed a letter of intent yesterday to attend and play football at Bentley University in Waltham. Hammond’s performance as a tight end and defensive end for the Rockets did not escape the notice of several college recruiters, but in the end, he chose Bentley.

Hammond told Auburn Mass Daily, “I’m thinking about the 40 years, not the 4 years. This is a better investment for my money.” He plans to major in business management with a minor in sports management. Like most young and talented players, he would love to make it to the NFL, but he also understands that is a long process.

His parents, Lisa and Michael, joined football teammates, other students, relatives, and coaches for the signing outside the Auburn High Athletic Hall of Fame, and Alex was all smiles. Vice-Principal Eileen Donahue reminded everyone that scholarship selection by a college comes only after many years of hard work by the athlete.

Congratulations Alex, and good luck!
