Boston – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced that it will hold a public information meeting on Wednesday, February 1, at 7 p.m., at the Oxford High School Auditorium in Oxford in order to provide an update on the roadway reconstruction project on Route 20 in Charlton and Oxford.

While emergency safety repairs were completed on this roadway in January of 2016, this long-term improvement project is being designed to further improve the geometry and safety conditions of the roadway as well as address traffic operations at the adjacent intersections. These improvements include the full-depth reconstruction and widening of the roadway to accommodate two 12-foot wide lanes with four-foot median shoulders and eight-foot curbside shoulders in each direction of travel. A median barrier separating opposing directions of travel is proposed throughout the entire project corridor. The bridge carrying Route 20 over the Little River in Charlton will be rehabilitated and the bridge carrying Route 20 over the French River in Oxford will be replaced. Additional project improvements include bicycle and pedestrian accommodations, signage, pavement markings, guardrail, retaining walls, storm drainage and storm water management infrastructure.

At this upcoming meeting, representatives of MassDOT will provide an update on the design of the reconstruction project, and will then lead a discussion in order to answer questions and gather comments and input from community members.
