She was born in Worcester and lived in Auburn, but spent most of her adult life in Fort Lauderdale. Tere practiced elder law until a few days before her death. She was a graduate of Worcester South High School, Nova Southeastern University School of Law, Florida Atlantic University and Broward College.
Tere unassumingly gave her time, expertise and support to many Florida community organizations including the Elizabeth H. Faulk Foundation and the Faulk Center for Counseling in Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale Historical Society, Broward Community College Foundation Board of Directors, Broward Women’s Alliance, and the Tower Club Forum among others.
Tere was honored by several organizations in her role as a community advocate. She was named a Distinguished Alumna of Broward College, Woman of the Year by Women in Communications, was recognized by the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce for her continued support, formally commended by the City of Fort Lauderdale for her service and contributions as chairman of the Planning and Zoning Board, and was honored by the Broward College Foundation as chair of the Endowed Teaching Chair Committee.
Tere was married to the late Edgar Sjogren with whom she was president and co-owner of Mold Master Inc. and treasurer and president of Gulf Machinery and Sales, Inc. in Fort Lauderdale Florida.
Among those who love and cherish her memory are her family; Roger R. (Julia) Parent, Paul Parent, William (Patricia) Parent, Robert Parent, Anne (Robert) Parent Lavoie, Rene Brodeur, Jr., Betty Manzello, John (Vikki) Brodeur, Gail (Ed) Mastrorio, Mary (Michael) Malley, William Brodeur, Stephen (Amy) Brodeur and sister-in-law Vicki Brodeur. She was preceded in death by her sister, Penny Brodeur Parent, her brother-in-law Roger W., and her brother, Rene Brodeur, Sr.
Tere had a strong belief in the transforming power of higher education in people’s lives, which is why she gave her time to the Broward College Foundation for so many years, and provided scholarships for deserving students. It was her wish that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Broward College Foundation 111 East Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 in support of the Teresa B. Sjogren Endowed Scholarship.
Friends are invited to join the family on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 11:00am for a memorial service at Auburn Hillside Cemetery, 65 Central Street, Auburn, MA.
