Worcester, Massachusetts – Worcester Community Action Council, Inc. will mark its 10th Annual Action Hero Awards with a celebration being planned for Wednesday, May 25, 2016 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Beechwood Hotel, Worcester. The event was established to honor exemplary individuals and organizations which have supported WCAC and its mission over the past year. Previous heroes have provided financial contributions, in-kind goods and services, and/or advocacy to help us move individuals and families out of poverty and into self-sufficiency.

This year’s honorees will include:

Southbridge Savings Bank – for their generous support of WCAC’s fuel assistance program and annual coat drive;
Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce President Timothy Murray, Worcester City Manager Edward Augustus, and Worcester Interfaith Director Frank Kartheiser for their tireless efforts to advance employment opportunities for Worcester area youth;
United Way of Central Massachusetts President Tim Garvin for his vocal advocacy for support of nonprofit efforts throughout the region; and
Webster Public Schools Superintendent Barbara Malkas and State Representative Joseph McKenna for their support in WCAC’s ongoing efforts to relocate Head Start classrooms within the Town of Webster.

WCAC will welcome noted community leader and philantropist Mary DeFeudis as the evening’s keynote speaker.

“I am honored to be serving in my tenth year as executive director of WCAC and am grateful for our dedicated Board of Directors, community partners, funders, donors and our staff – past and present – committed to helping others in need every day,” noted WCAC Executive Director Jill Dagilis. “We look forward to honoring our 2016 Action Heroes with what promises to be a very special evening celebrating a truly remarkable decade.”

A reunion of previous Action Hero Awardees is planned along with a display of WCAC’s signature Action Hero caricatures.
