With a long break between winter and spring sports this year, everyone seems anxious to get on the fields, the courts and the diamonds. But Mother Nature had a different idea, and most games have been cancelled over the past two days due to the accumulated snow.

Only the tennis courts were free of snow and water yesterday, so the boys and girls were able to play, albeit not in the usual tennis attire. Shovels were more of an accessory for the baseball players than bats, and the diamond was off-limits during practice. Meanwhile, the lacrosse players worked around the small snow mounds as they practiced.

Boys tennis defeated Leicester 4-1 in their season opener. Albert Smreczak defeated Reece McLeod, 6-0, 6-1; Kyle Novakoski defeated Tyler Jefferson, 6-1, 6-0; Sebastian Smreczak beat Trevor Goodwin, 7-6, 6-4; Alex Lemovitz & Ryan Nurse bested Kyle Petit & Alex Bahnan, 7-6, 0-6, 6-0; and Leicester’s Trevor Mot & Harsh Patel defeated Dave Klett & Ryan Williams, 6-1, 6-2.

The girls lost to Leicester 1-4, and the only winning match was when Allie Giaquinto & Victoria Konicki (A) defeated Grace Marc-Aurele & Olivia Violette, 6-1, 6-0. This was Konicki’s first varsity performance, and the partnership worked well.
