From Tuesday, May 3rd – Saturday, May 7th, Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester will host Women Build at 4 Homestead Avenue in Auburn, MA during the hours of 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM each day. Teams of 10 – 12 individuals will build at the site, a duplex to be home to two deserving families.
National Women Build Week is designed to empower women here in our community, and across the country. Thousands of women from all walks of life will build together at more than 300 Habitat for Humanity sites nationwide to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter, including at our Auburn, MA build site.
Partnering with Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester, women will work hands-on to help strengthen the lives of deserving women, children, and families through affordable housing. While affordable housing is an issue that affects everyone, it has disproportionately affected women. Nationally, 70% of Habitat homes are sold to women heads-of-household which in turn provides deserving women and their families with a hand up, not a hand out.
Companies sending teams to our Auburn Women Build Week include Savers Bank, Consigli Construction Co., Inc., and CVS.
About the Auburn Home Build – As part of an initiative to avoid abandoned, vacant homes, Bank of America donated the property to Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester. The single family home previously located on the approximately 1/3 acre lot was demolished, and work has begun on a new duplex home. Each duplex will be LEED certified to meet our environmentally friendly goals. The home is located in a stable and safe neighborhood, right down the street from a church, and minutes from schools and shopping.
