morrisseyRaymond J. Morrissey passed away peacefully at the Leominster Life Care Center on Sunday February 14, 2016 comforted by family members. He was a resident in Auburn for over 65 years.

Ray was born in Worcester, MA on January 3, 1925 to Thomas and Helen Morrissey. He was preceded in death by his siblings James, Thomas, Dorothy and Helen. He attended St. John’s grammar and high school where he played football.

Ray served in the U.S. Navy from during W.W. II being honorably discharged in 1946. He served in the Pacific on the USS Abbott as well as the USS Ommaney Bay. Ray received a Presidential Award for his service. He was a member of the VFW in Worcester. He worked at Thom McAnn in Worcester and Auburn for 35 years.

Ray was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Helen ( Matzilevich) Morrissey and his daughter Anne Morrissey. He is survived by his children and their families, Susan Pleines and her husband Robert of Harwich, MA and grandsons Thomas and Michael Pleines, Kevin Morrissey and his wife, Diane of Frederick, MD, grandsons David and Evan and his wife Stacey and great-granddaughter Natalie Morrissey; Patricia Carrol and her husband Terrance of Lunenburg, MA and grandchildren Jennifer and James Carroll, and Raymond Morrissey and his wife Michelle of Sterling, MA and grandchildren Ryan, Sydney and Megan .

Ray was a life-long Boston sports fan, he also enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden. Ray’s family wishes to thanks Angels, Phyllis and Paula for their wonderful care of Ray.

A private family graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Auburn at a later date when he will be reunited with his wife, Helen.
