When Grafton comes to town, players, coaches and spectators can expect a good game, and Monday, January 25th was no exception at Auburn Middle School. The boys played a tight game in the first half, and it didn’t really separate until the third quarter. Auburn was up 11-10 after one quarter and up 22-20 at the break.
The Rockets led 32-26 after three, but the Indians were determined to make a comeback. Two 3’s, two baskets and two free throws tightened the game at times, but Grafton’s desperate fouling in the final minutes took them down.
The Indians twelve 4th quarter fouls added 9 points to the Rockets score, but it did limit them to sinking only 7 basket points in the final quarter. Auburn was victorious, 48-38.
During the girls match, it took 3 minutes for a basket to fall in the first quarter that ended 5-4 in Auburn’s favor. The Lady Rockets went on a nice run in the second and were in the lead 22-8 at the half. The Indians logged 6 fouls in the first half, and Auburn got 4 points at the line.
The third was very even with Auburn scoring 5 to Grafton’s 7. It ended 27-15. The Rockets extended their lead to 14 points in the fourth, and the final was another Auburn Victory, 33-19.
Auburn Mass Daily hopes to cover another home game for each of these teams and do a recap on this solid season.
