The indoor track season starts next Wednesday with an away meet at Tantasqua, and many cross country runners from the fall season will transition to the gymnasiums and shorter runs.
In the fall, the boys cross country team finished last in SWCL East with a 2-10 record. Unlike past years, most of the runners were underclassmen, and this was definitely a building year. Only one senior and one junior were on the MIAA tournament roster while the other 6 were freshmen. No matter how you cut it, longer legs net faster times.
In the Central Division 1 race, freshman Daniel Lindblom came in 97th out of 150 runners. Junior Ben Sunagel was 114th; senior Patrick Callahan ran 139th; and freshmen Joseph Conway and Samuel Elewell finished 143rd and 148th. No runners qualified for States.
The girls finished third in SWCL East with a record of 9-3. In the Central race, Auburn finished in 11th place with junior Sarah Cavanaugh leading the Rocket harriers with a time of 19.17.6. Seniors Stephanie Bolduc and Nicole Berthiume were 73rd and 74th while freshmen Emma Gervais and Gianna Bernier ran 95th and 105th out of 124 runners.
Cavanaugh qualified for States and finished 27th out of 179 runners.
Auburn Mass Daily thanks all the harriers for their hard work this season, and we look forward to a great winter.
